Edema socks are very similar to diabetic socks. So what does this mean?

Edema, formerly known as dropsy or hydropsy, is the increase of interstitial fluid in any organ — swelling. Generally, the amount of interstitial fluid is determined by the balance of fluid homeostasis, and increased secretion of fluid into the interstitium or impaired removal of this fluid may cause edema.

Diabetes mellitus, often referred to simply as diabetes, is a syndrome characterized by disordered metabolism and abnormally high blood sugar (hyperglycaemia) resulting from insufficient levels of the hormone insulin. The characteristic symptoms are excessive urine production (polyuria) due to high blood glucose levels, excessive thirst and increased fluid intake (polydipsia) attempting to compensate for increased urination, blurred vision due to high blood glucose effects on the eye’s optics, unexplained weight loss, and lethargy.

Both of these diseases require a loose top sock that doesn’t prohibit proper blood circulation. So although diabetic socks and edema socks may have different names - they can both serve the same purpose. To learn more about our socks and why they are perfect for both of these illnesses you can read this article on diabetic socks.

The 11″ cross stretch is the single most important aspect of our socks for people suffering from diabetes. The top is just loose enough to allow proper blood flow without being so loose that it slides down your leg. Often with diabetic socks, the number one complaint is that the tops stretch out. Our tops are built using a durable yet loose nylon to last as long as a diabetic sock can.
